Immigration Problems and Solutions

Statue of Liberty

The problem of illegal immigration has been going on for decades in America with no end in sight. There are currently over 10 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.

Making the problem worse is the fact that you have people who are very passionate on both sides of the immigration issue; which makes it extremely difficult to ever find a rational solution.

On one side, you have the kick them all out crowd, and on the other side you have the amnesty let them stay crowd. Most rational people know it has to be a combination of the two.

For decades politicians have turned a blind eye while American employers have used illegal immigrants to perform work for them in the United States. This means that those illegal immigrants have made roots here in America, and many of them have started families here as well. So to now all of a sudden round them all up and just kick them out, just doesn't seem to be a rational approach to the problem.

"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

- "The New Colossus" is a sonnet by Emma Lazarus (1849-1887), engraved on a bronze plaque and mounted inside the lower level of the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty.

Solution: There has to be some sort of amesty, especially for the children of illegal immigrants, who have been productive participants in American society.

If politicians truly wanted to end illlegal immigration, they could do it at any time by going after employers who hire illegal immigrants.

However, politicians know that illegal immigrants perform many tasks, such as picking crops, that most Americans simply have no desire to do. Therefore, they tend to ignore the issue unless the illegal immigrants commit violent crimes.
