Republican ACA Replacement Healthcare Plan: "Let Them Eat Cake!"

Republican ACA Replacement Healthcare Plan By: Chad Allen - 3/21/2017

"Let Them Eat Cake!" - a phrase used to describe wealthy elites who do not understand the plight of the poor.

Anyone who follows public policy should not be surprised that the Republican ACA replacement healthcare plan offered by the Paul Ryan (Ayn Rand) led House of Representatives would be atrocious for the poor and lower-middle class.

Somebody just needs to say this so I will... Paul Ryan despises poor people, always has and always will. Paul Ryan and many other Republicans, especially in the current House of Representatives, believe that poor Americans are primarily poor by choice not circumstance. Therefore, giving them any type of government assistance is tantamount to undeserved welfare.

The American Health Care Act (AHCA) plan released by the Republicans on 3/6/2017 is nothing more than an enormous tax break for the wealthiest Americans at the expense of healthcare for the poor and lower-middle class... a.k.a. Robin Hood in Reverse.

Any American who is making less than $30,000 a year would be left behind if the current version of the Republican ACA replacement healthcare bill ever became law.

The Republicans are actually making a bet based on historical voting data, which consistently shows that low-income Americans simply do NOT vote in significant numbers. The higher your income the more likely you are to vote in America, and that is simply a sad but honest truth.

So, the Republican bet is that by taking some of the ACA Medicaid and subsidy assistance away from the poor and lower-middle class, and then in turn giving it to the middle and upper-middle class, that they will make the higher income, more likely voters, happy.

Therefore, Republicans couldn’t care less about whether or not poor and lower-middle class Americans have affordable access to healthcare, especially through Medicaid. This also explains why Kentucky Senators Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul openly express their desire to take away Medicaid from over 400,000+ Kentuckians who obtained their new coverage through the expanded Medicaid program under the ACA.

CBO - Uninsured ACA vs AHCA

Bottom Line... If you are a low-income American the Republican ACA replacement healthcare plan will be utterly devastating to your own personal health and well-being, and the Republicans in Congress couldn’t care less because they know that most of you simply don't vote.
