Terrorism and Politics
The fight against terrorism has become a common theme in American politics. Unfortunately, many politicans use terrorism as an excuse to keep the large and expensive military-industrial complex going.
In addition, some politicians will use fear as a tool to make American citizens feel unsafe in order to justify expensive and costly foreign wars and occupations.
Abraham Lincoln's following quote sums up this fear based political strategy perfectly:
"Kings had always been involving and impoverishing their people in wars, pretending generally, if not always, that the good of the people was the object."
- Abraham Lincoln, March 9, 1848
Solution: Terrorism should be fought using small specialzed forces and agencies not with large standing armies.
